Obituary of Maria La Monica

Maria (Nocera) La Monica died Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at Cranbury Center in Monroe Township. She was 77. Born in Siracusa, Sicily, Italy she came to the United States in 1965 and settled in New Brunswick. She moved to North Brunswick in 1970 and lived there before moving to Monroe three years ago. She was an expert seamstress and dressmaker who worked for Bond Clothing Company in New Brunswick for 11 years before it closed in 1976. After that she continued to work from home making wedding and prom dresses for many years. Mrs. La Monica was a former communicant of St. Mary of Mount Virgin R.C. Church in New Brunswick. Her cooking was enjoyed by her family and many of their friends. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Giuseppe La Monica; two sons – Maurizio La Monica of Palm City, Florida and Mark La Monica and his wife Lisa of North Brunswick; two sisters – Lucia Nocera and Ida Drago, both of Italy; three grandchildren – Jack, Brooke and Jake Anthony; two brothers-in-law – Bruno La Monica of Somerset and Gino La Monica of Bridgewater; and a sister-in-law Iole Mamo of Italy. Visitation will be Monday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick with a funeral service at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick.
