America (Litterio) Vascellaro passed away on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at her home in North Brunswick with her family by her side, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer Disease. She was 90. Residing in New Brunswick after immigrating to the US in 1960 from Menfi, Sicily, she has lived in North Brunswick since 1973. She was employed by Bond's Clothing Company and then by John's Uniform Center in Somerset retiring in 2006. Mrs. Vascellaro enjoyed spending time at the North Brunswick Senior Center playing Bingo, going on trips to Atlantic City and enjoyed being a part of the many social events they offered. She was a member of the North Brunswick Italian-American Club and loved working at the Italian Carnevale. She loved to travel, especially with her grandson, and enjoyed many trips abroad and to her native Argentina. She was also an avid reader and subscribed to many Italian and Spanish magazines and newspapers. She was a generous person contributing to many charitable organizations, especially her favored, St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Spending time with her family and friends was most important to her. America was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Giusto Vascellaro, in 1994. She is survived by her loving daughters and their husbands - Maria and Ken Stevens of North Brunswick and Grace and Robert Glassen of East Brunswick; her beloved grandson, Derek Stevens, of Tega Cay, South Carolina; and many nephews and nieces in Italy and Argentina.
