Martin Julius Spannagel died Saturday, January 2, 2021 at his home in the Kendall Park section of South Brunswick. He was 77. Born in Jersey City to the late Martin J. and Helen A. (Balbian) Spanngel, he lived in Hackensack before moving to Kendall Park 52 years ago. He was a mechanical engineer and vice president of Alliance Engineering of Scranton, Pennsylvania for 20 years before retiring in 2007. Prior to that he had worked for Johnson and Johnson. He is survived by his wife Judith Ann (Semenecz) Spannagel; three daughters – Lauren Ann Szymczak and her husband Scott of North Brunswick, Kristen Lynn Snyderman and her husband Jeffrey of Scotch Plains and Karen Jean Maddox and her husband Phillip of St. Augustine, Florida; his son Martin Joseph Spannagel and his wife Vickie of Holiday, FL; and five grandchildren – Bryanna Spannagel, Gracie Maddox, Tad Szymczak, Harper Snyderman and Benjamin Snyderman. Private cremation services were under the direction of Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Robert Wood Johnson Visiting Nurses, 972 Shoppes Blvd., North Brunswick, NJ 08902.
