Obituary of Bruce J Schechter

Please share a memory of Bruce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bruce Jeffrey Schechter passed away due to complications from COVID-19 on Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 61. Born in Rochester, New York to Sheldon and Irene Schechter, Bruce and his family moved to East Brunswick where he spent the remainder of his childhood. He graduated from East Brunswick High School and then Rutgers University in New Brunswick in 1981 with a BA in Communications. Bruce first met his future wife, Kay Schindler, while they were in high school. They reconnected while attending Rutgers as undergraduates. Bruce and Kay were married in August of 1982 at Kirkpatrick Chapel and moved to Somerset where they raised their three children. Bruce began his career with Major League Baseball Productions before moving into the television and promotional world of film and video editing. Bruce was predeceased by his father, Sheldon Schechter, in 2017; his mother-in-law, Kathleen "Kath" Schindler, on November 30, 2020; and father-in-law, Frances Eugene "Bud" Schindler, in 1994. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kay (Schindler) Schechter; his children - Kristen France and her husband Preston of Clinton, Matthew Schechter of Montclair and Kaitlyn Schechter and her fiancée, Claire Sweeney, of Jersey City; his most adored grandson Everett France; his mother Irene Schechter of Keansburg; brother Andrew Schechter and his wife Tanya of Keyport; and niece and nephew - Michael and Katarina. Bruce's sudden illness and death have left an immeasurable void in the hearts of his family and many cherished friends. His unfailing generosity, sharp wit, naturally engaging personality, enthusiastic storytelling style, candid expression of opinions (political and otherwise), and unconditional dedication to his loved ones will be sorely missed and warmly remembered by all who knew and loved him. Due to COVID-19 precautions, the funeral services under the direction of Selover Funeral Home in North Brunswick were private. In lieu of flowers, during a time so many are struggling to feed themselves and their families, please consider a donation to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey – www.cfbnj.org
