Mary F. (Christ) Recine, 93, born June 18, 1927, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at Regency Grande Nursing Center after a lengthy battle with Covid. Born in New Brunswick, she was a lifelong city resident. Mary graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1946, and married her high school sweetheart, Victor "Vito" Recine in 1947. Together they had three sons, Victor Jr., Michael and Robert. Mary worked as a secretary in the athletic department at Rutgers University for 30 years. After getting married, Mary became a member of St. Mary of Mt. Virgin R.C. Church in New Brunswick. Over the years, she was very active with the Village Recreation and Swim Club where her sons swam. Mary was a strong, kind, hardworking, generous, fun-loving lady who was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend to many. She devoted her life as a caregiver for over 40 years to her son Bobby after he suffered a spinal cord injury while playing lightweight football at Rutgers. Mary was well known for her homemade ravioli, sauce and meatballs as well as her famous Greek cookies and Greek bread. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking, playing poker every Saturday night with family, going to the casinos, and most importantly being with her family. Mary was well loved, well respected and will certainly be missed by many. She was predeceased by her son Victor, Jr., her husband Vito and her son Bobby. Mary is survived by her son Michael, husband of Susan; grandchildren Katie Cook, wife of Dr. Byron M. Cook and Michael Jr., husband of Katie Recine; and great grandchildren Byron A. Cook, Aiden Cook and Juliana Recine. A private viewing will be held for immediate family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 13th at 10:30 AM at St. Mary of Mt. Virgin RC Church, the corner of Remsen Avenue and Sandford Street, in New Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's name in honor of her son Bobby Recine, to the Central Jersey Spinal Cord Association, PO Box 74, New Brunswick, NJ 08903.
