Please share a memory of Carmel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carmel (Gullo) O'Neill passed away Monday, February 15, 2021 at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick. She was 92. Born in Tampa, Florida to the late Luca and Vincenza (Lavattiata) Gullo, Carmel graduated from the Gordon Keller School of Nursing in 1950 and joined the Air Force soon after. She was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida during the Korean War, where she met her husband, Harry W. O'Neill. After serving in the Air Force, they moved north and settled in Highland Park, NJ, where Carmel was incredibly active in many organizations, including school PTAs, the Red Cross Blood Bank, the Highland Park Women's Club and Meals on Wheels. In addition to her volunteer work, Carmel was a registered nurse for Dr. Paul Prodromo in North Brunswick for close to 20 years before retiring in 2005. Carmel moved into Monroe Village in Monroe Township in 2007, where she became an active and vibrant member of their community. She volunteered in the greenhouse, thrift shop, Italian Club and set up for church every Sunday. In addition to those activities, Carmel crocheted many lap blankets for those living in the nursing home. She was incredibly devoted to her family and friends and was always there to lend a helping hand. She was predeceased by her husband Harry W. O'Neill in 2008, after 56 happy years of marriage. Surviving are her son Randal O'Neill and his wife Cindy of Chester; her daughter Sharon Emmanuelle of Roseland; and her granddaughter Rachel Emmanuelle of Hoboken, whom she adored very much. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Private services are under the direction of Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in her loving memory to Meals on Wheels in Greater New Brunswick, 211 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick (https://mowgnb.org/donate.html).
