Obituary of Betty Lou Heffernan

Betty Lou Heffernan died Thursday, February 25, 2021, at The Palms of Ponte Vedra in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida after a long battle with Alzheimer's dementia. She was 78. Born in New Brunswick to the late David and Audrey (Anclien) Johnson, she lived in Milltown for many years before moving to Norwalk, Connecticut in 2014 and to Ponte Vedra a year and a half ago. She was Assistant to the Dean at Rutgers University in New Brunswick for 30 years before retiring in 2005. Prior to that she had worked for Van Doren - Johnson Electrical Supply, her family's business in North Brunswick. Mrs. Heffernan was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church in Milltown and Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church in Ponte Vedra Beach. She was predeceased by her husband James J. Heffernan in 2004; and by her son Kevin Heffernan in 1990. Surviving are her son Brian Heffernan and his wife Leigh of Wilton, Connecticut; her brother David Johnson of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; her brother-in-law John Heffernan of Milltown; and three grandchildren – Beth, Mandy and J.T. Heffernan, all of Willton, CT. Private funeral services with burial in Holy Cross Burial Park in South Brunswick were under the direction of Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick.
