Obituary of Carmela Fazekas

Carmela (Bongiovi) Fazekas died Monday, March 1, 2021, at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick. She was 86. Born in New Brunswick to the late Salvatore and Nettie (Previte) Bongiovi, she lived in Highland Park for 70 years before moving to Milltown four years ago. She worked for Johnson and Johnson in Milltown and then Reed and Carnick Pharmaceuticals in Piscataway before her retirement in 1994. Mrs. Fazekas was a former communicant of St. Paul the Apostle R.C. Church in Highland Park and currently attended Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church in Milltown. She was an avid bingo player, spending many evenings at St. Thomas Church in Old Bridge. She also loved trips to Atlantic City. Her husband John Fazekas died in 1994. She was also predeceased by her brother Dominic Bongiovi. Surviving are two daughters – Cindy Nastasi and her husband Nick of Milltown and Leslie Cook of Iselin; her sister Rose Marie Staudt of Hillsborough; two grandchildren – Jackie Mauro and her husband Kurt of Milltown and Carly Nastasi and her spouse Monica Colonna of North Brunswick; and two great grandchildren – Ava and Brayden Mauro. Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. Funeral services will be 10:45 AM Thursday from Selover Funeral Home followed by an 11:30 AM Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church in Milltown. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in New Brunswick.
