Dorothy A. (Weiden) Hurley, 93, passed away on Thursday, March 25, 2021, in Lakewood. Born in 1927 to the late August and Valeria (Varga) Weiden, she lived in North Brunswick for 40 years before moving to Leisure Village West, Manchester in 1994 and to Harrogate Senior Living, Lakewood in 2012. She was a graduate of New Brunswick High School and was an enthusiastic participant in the school's weekly swimming program. She joined the New Brunswick YWCA in 1953 as a teen advisor and was later promoted to swimming instructor. In 1957 she was appointed director of the swimming program. Among the many fundraisers she organized to raise funds for a new pool at the YWCA, her favorites were the synchronized swimming shows which she and her staff created and also performed in. She retired in 1982. Dorothy loved to entertain friends and family in her home; she enjoyed socializing, playing cards and traveling with her many friends. She was happiest near the water – swimming, boating and going on cruises. Her husband, Lorvale P. Hurley, died in 2007. Dorothy is also predeceased by her sister Peggy Stocker. Surviving are her son Ronald L. Hurley and his wife Christine of Princeton; her daughter Nancy C. Berrien and her husband James of Bayville; her brother Howard Brooks and his wife Susan of Littleton, Colorado; three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick followed by a funeral service at 12:00 Noon.
