Obituary of William B O'Byrne

William B. O'Byrne died Thursday, September 16, 2021, at The Gardens at Monroe in Monroe Township. He was 89. Born in Carbondale, Pennsylvania to the late Leo T. and Mary (Corrigan) O'Byrne he lived in New Brunswick before moving to North Brunswick 58 years ago. He was a millwright at Rutgers University in New Brunswick for 10 years before retiring in 1995. Mr. O'Byrne served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion and the Tin Can Sailors. As a sailor he was happiest at sea on his boat. He also enjoyed painting. He was predeceased by two brothers Leo F. O'Byrne and Joseph T. O'Byrne; and by two sisters Mary Butz and Margaret Berardo. Surviving are his wife Irene (McDonald) O'Byrne; his daughter Kathleen Zielinski and her husband Jeffrey of Readington Township; four sons – William O'Byrne and his wife Nora of Medford, Peter O'Byrne of Lawrenceville, Brian O'Byrne of North Brunswick and John O'Byrne of Los Angeles, California; and five grandchildren – Kaitlin, Liane and Brianna Zielinski and Isabella and William O'Byrne. Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. Funeral services will be 9:45 AM Tuesday from Selover Funeral Home followed by a 10:30 AM Mass at St. Mary of Mount Virgin R.C. Church in New Brunswick. Private cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the North Brunswick First Aid and Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 7043, North Brunswick, NJ 08902.
