Obituary of Patricia A Shalayda

Patricia A. (Volkland) Shalayda died Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. She was 80. Born in Queens, New York to the late Frank and Abby (Kershaw) Volkland, she lived in Edison before moving to Milltown in 1972. She was an administrative assistant for the Middlesex County Office of Aging in New Brunswick for 27 years before retiring in 2014. She also worked as a cashier at Target in Milltown for the past 20 years. Mrs. Shalayda was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church in Milltown. She was an active member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, Joyce Kilmer Post #25 in Milltown. Her husband Gregory M. Shalayda died in 1985. She was also predeceased by her brother Richard D. Volkland; brothers-in-law - Adrian and Michael Shalayda; and sisters-in-law – Marie, and Yolanda Shalayda and Susan Shenko. Surviving are three daughters – Colleen D'Aloia and her husband Valerio of Edison and Christine Shalayda and Tara Shalayda, both of Milltown; two sons – Gregory Shalayda of Bronx, New York and Kevin Shalayda of Piscataway; two grandsons – Christopher and Michael D'Aloia of Edison; her brother John Volkland of Metuchen; sisters-in-law – Carol Volkland of Metuchen, Jane Volkland of Hamilton Square, Ann Marie Shalayda of Connecticut and Beth Shalayda of Staten Island; brothers-in-law – Robert Shalayda of North Carolina, Daniel Shalayda of South Carolina, Edward and David Shalayda of Milltown and Gerald Shalayda and his wife Martha of East Brunswick; and numerous nieces and nephews Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. Funeral services will be 9:15 AM Tuesday from Selover Funeral Home followed by a 10:00 AM Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Milltown. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Burial Park in South Brunswick.
