Obituary of Vera Abruzzi

Vera (Biro) Abruzzi crossed over to her Father in Heaven on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at the age of 104 years, surrounded by her loving family at her home in North Brunswick. She was born in New Brunswick to the late John and Mary (Toth) Biro and was raised in Edison. She settled in North Brunswick 73 years ago. She was beloved by all those who met her, from the children of Livingston Park School in North Brunswick where she worked as a lunch aide for 22 years before retiring in 1991, to the doctors and nurses who treated her. They called her a "rock star," and she was. Vera was a natural gardener, a trait she inherited from her mother. She was able to grow flowers from stems. In the image of herself she created a very successful, creative, beautiful and loving family. She is reunited with her husband of 59 years Nicholas Michael Abruzzi who died in 2004; her daughter Marie Dorothy Kadi who died in 2020; her daughter-in-law Catherine E. (Lyon) Abruzzi who died in 2004; and three brothers and four sisters. Surviving are her son Michael V. Abruzzi of Kendall Park; her son-in-law Ronald L. Kadi of Franklin Park; four grandchildren – Gary Kadi and his wife Judith of New York City, Barbara Rommel and her husband Mark of White Plains, New York, Michael V. Abruzzi, Jr. and his wife Carol of Yardley, Pennsylvania and David Abruzzi and his wife Jen of Skillman; and nine great grandchildren. Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick with a funeral service to be held at 6:30 PM at Selover Funeral Home. Graveside services and the interment will take place 11:00 AM Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Franklin Memorial Park, 1800 Route 27, North Brunswick. The family requests that masks and social spacing mandates apply. Hand shaking and hugs are discouraged. Special thanks are given to Gary and Judith Kadi for their generous and loving care during Mom Abruzzi's amazing life. GOD, PLEASE ACCEPT HER AS THE VERY SPECIAL WOMAN THAT SHE WAS.
