Obituary of George Y. Chedid

Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
George Youssef Chedid was called to the Lord on January 6, 2022, at St. Peter's Hospital, at the age of 89. George was born on January 22, 1932, in Kherbet Kanafar, Lebanon, to his parents, Rev. Youssef Chedid and Marie Chedid. He spent his early life contributing to the community as a cantor alongside his father, a priest, at the local church. George later served as a police officer for 18 years before making the brave decision to immigrate to the United States with his family in 1976. He lived in New Brunswick before moving to North Brunswick 30 years ago. He established his own small business in New Brunswick and worked tirelessly as an entrepreneur to provide the best possible life for his family. He dedicated his life to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was his happiest when surrounded by them. George was an actively involved parishioner of St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church and was one of its first council members. He attended Sunday mass religiously and was well-loved and respected by everyone who knew him. His unwavering and steadfast faith in God guided every decision in his life, and he epitomized what it means to be a peaceful, pure, and loving person. He was predeceased by his brother John Chedid. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Georgette Chedid; his children - Nawal Richa and her husband Elie of Somerset, Henriette Chedid and her husband George of North Brunswick, Joseph Chedid and his wife Lisa of North Brunswick, Antoinette Chamoun and her husband George of North Brunswick, and Antoine Chedid and his wife Shadia of North Brunswick; his three brothers – Henry Chedid of Lebanon, Peter Chedid of Arizona and Paul Chedid of Florida. He was adored by his 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Due to the rise of COVID cases, there will be a private viewing. The funeral mass will be held 11:00 AM Thursday at St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church, 7 Reeve Street, Somerset. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Burial Park in Piscataway. Arrangements are under the direction of Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick.
