Obituary of Herbert A. Dietzel, MD

Herbert A. Dietzel, MD died Monday, March 21, 2022, at his home in Surf City. He was 91 years old.

Born in Passaic to the late Alban and Elsa (Kittlemann) Dietzel, he lived in Lakewood and North Brunswick before retiring to Naples, Florida and Surf City. He was an OB/GYN physician who maintained his practice in North Brunswick for 37 years before retiring in 2001. Dr. Dietzel was a 1952 graduate of Colgate University and a 1956 graduate of Cornell Medical School. He practiced at Middlesex General Hospital (now Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital) and St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick.

He was a trustee emeritus of Colgate University and was a member of Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Brunswick. He served in the United States Air Force in Biloxi, Mississippi during the early 1960s.

Dr. Dietzel was an avid golfer who enjoyed the sport into his mid 80s.

His wife Eileen (Stotz) Dietzel died in 2008. Surviving are his three children – Christine Dietzel and her husband Robert of Morristown and their children William and Sarah, Cynthia Dietzel and her husband Thomas Renahan of Chester and their children Lindsay, Colin, Lauren, Bryan and Angelina and Geoffrey Dietzel and his wife Rosa of North Brunswick and their children Thomas and Emily; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation was private. A gathering of friends and relatives will be held 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM Saturday, March 26, 2022, at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick.
