Obituary of Mary J. Schimandle

Mary J. (Macaro) Schimandle died peacefully in her sleep on Friday, March 25, 2022, at her home in Washington Borough. She is now joined with her loved ones. She was 89 years old. Born in New Brunswick to the late Joseph and Sara (Rapisarda) Macaro, she moved to Kendall Park in 1971 remained there before residing with her daughter since 2012. She became a dental assistant at age 16 and attended Middlesex County College at age 50 to become a dental hygienist. She went on to earn her bachelor degree in patient education from Rutgers University. She worked for Dr. Michael F. Parise, DDS in North Brunswick and retired in 2006 at the age of 73. A devout catholic, Mrs. Schimandle was a communicant of St. Augustine of Canterbury R.C. Church in Kendall Park since 1971. She was a member of the South Brunswick Senior Center and the South Brunswick Golden Age Club. Mary enjoyed life, her love of dental hygiene, her patients, family members and friends. She was always there to brighten the lives of others and loved her weekly "meet and eat" with her many friends. There was nothing she liked better than an interesting conversation and could engage with anyone. Her husband of 46 years Major George H. Schimandle (US Army ret.) died in 2002. She was also predeceased by her daughter Kim E. Schimandle in 2015; and siblings – Anna Micale, Dominick "Chick" Macaro, Domenica "Mamie" Tischhauser and Anthony "Tony" Macaro. Surviving are her son Dr. Jeffrey Schimandle of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her daughter Lisa Murphy and her husband Michael of Washington Borough; six grandchildren – Casey Carpiniello and her husband Dan, Shannon O'Brien, Kelly O'Brien and Greg Myers, Katie Schimandle, Lauren Schimandle and Olivia Schimandle; a great grandson Lucas Carpiniello; and step grandchildren – Elizabeth and Erin Murphy. Visitation will be 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM Friday at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday at Selover Funeral Home.
