Obituary of Laurance J Mix

Laurance J. Mix died Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at New World Villas – North County Care Home in Poway, California. He was 84 years old.

Born in Geneva, New York to the late Laurance W. and Hazel (Habberfield) Mix, he lived in Hillsdale, NJ for 36 years and South Brunswick, NJ, where he was an active community member, before moving to Monroe Township in 2019. Larry was an aircraft mechanic who, during his career, worked for seven airlines at Newark, LaGuardia and JFK Airports. The last 13 years were spent at American Airlines at Newark Liberty Airport before his retirement in 2003.

Mr. Mix was a United States Army veteran serving in the late 1950's, including 18 months overseas in Germany. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Lt. John Farnkopf Post #401 in Monmouth Junction.

Larry was an avid hunter, fisherman and model airplane builder. He spent many seasons hunting with his brother Bill in upstate NY. He loved fishing with his grandchildren and family and had become a regular visitor to Lake Poway in San Diego.

He shared a special relationship with Erika Mueller for two years prior to her death in October of 2020. Surviving are his daughters Andrea Ferrari and her husband, Lawrence, of Saddle River, New Jersey; Sherri-Lee Johnston, and her husband Michael, of Poway, CA; his brother William Mix of Dryden, New York, his sister Geraldine Boyce of New York; and four grandchildren, Stephen Ferrari and his fiancé Brandi Bolkema, Alyssa Ferrari, Thomas Ferrari and Parker Johnston. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy (Steen) in December of 2018.

Cremation was private. A graveside service for the burial of the cremated remains will be held on Wednesday, June 15th, at 10:00 AM in Van Liew Cemetery, 585 Georges Road, North Brunswick. Arrangements are by Selover Funeral Home in North Brunswick, NJ.
