Obituary of Barbara A. Vermilyea

Barbara A. (Dicke) Vermilyea died Sunday, January 15, 2023, at her home in North Brunswick. She was 81.

Born in New Brunswick to the late Walter N. and Neva (Halladay) Dicke, she was raised in North Brunswick and returned there in 1982. She graduated from Douglas College in 1962 and was a teacher of Latin and Spanish. She was a partner in ministry with her husband at various churches in New Jersey and New York through 1982. She returned to North Brunswick in 1982 and worked in the accounts payable department of Johnson and Johnson for 22 years before retiring in 2004.

Mrs. Vermilyea was raised in the North Brunswick Reformed Church where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, served on consistory and was the church's organist. She was most recently a member of the Middlebush Reformed Church where she taught Sunday School.

Surviving are her loving husband of 59 years Rev. Gerald L. Vermilyea; three adoring daughters – Joanne Vermilyea of East Brunswick, Laura McDougal and her husband Peter Whitticar of Raleigh, North Carolina and Deborah Elliott and her husband Shane of Mauldin, South Carolina; her devoted sister Carole Baker of East Brunswick; two grandsons – Connor and Ryan McDougal who she loved dearly; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, January 20, 2023, at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, January 21, 2023, at the Middlebush Reformed Church, 1 South Middlebush Road in Somerset. Burial will follow in Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick.
