Obituary of Liga Neimanis

Please share a memory of Liga to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Liga (Pauluks) Neimanis passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at her home in Central New York. She was 96.

Born in Sesava, Latvia to the late Karlis and Milda (Grinbergs) Pauluks, her family fled Latvia during WWII to escape the Iron Curtain of communism. They lived in Germany for several years and, after the war, Liga traveled independently to the United States. She reunited with her parents and sisters and they settled in New Brunswick. She married Vadims Neimanis in 1954 and they lived in New Brunswick for many years. Liga moved to Bernhards Bay, New York 17 years ago to live with her daughter, Anita, and her family.

She worked at Sears, Roebuck and Co. in New Brunswick for 10 years before retiring in 2006. Prior to that she worked at Abraham and Strauss in Woodbridge Center and at Korvettes in North Brunswick. She had also worked as a Lunch Program Supervisor at Washington School in New Brunswick.

Liga was a member of the Latvian Society of New Jersey, and the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church of East Brunswick and Lakewood where she was an active member of the Ladies Committee for many years. Liga treasured her Latvian heritage. She loved to sing and dance, and she enjoyed gardening. Above all, she cherished and cared for her family.

In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Vadims Neimanis in 1988; and by three sisters – Aina Platais, Dzidra Zanders and Vesma Gabliks. Surviving are her daughter Anita Savage and her husband Mark of Bernhards Bay; her grandson Mark O. Savage; and four nieces and three nephews.
