Obituary of John F McBride
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John F. McBride, Jr., beloved brother, uncle, colleague and friend, died on Friday, April 14, 2023 at his home in North Brunswick. He was 76.
Born in New Brunswick to the late John F. McBride, Sr and Jeanne (Willar) McBride, he lived in North Brunswick for most of his life.
A lifetime lover of music, John received a Master's degree in musicology from Trenton State University (now The College of New Jersey). He was active in various church choirs, most recently at Kingston Presbyterian Church. He was also a longtime member of the St. Paul Seven Quintet.
His love for all things historical, curious, and literary led him to secure a Master's degree in Library Science from Rutgers University. For 25 years he served as a librarian at Metuchen Public Library before his retirement in 2021. He was also invaluable in his capacity as librarian at Westminster Choir College in Princeton until he retired in 2020.
John was a proud Rutgers alumnus and an exceptional cookie baker with an encyclopedic knowledge of history that made him a formidable Trivial Pursuit opponent.
He is survived by his two brothers, Robert McBride and his wife Susan Sofran of Woodbury, and Jeffrey McBride and his wife Cheryl of Monroe Township; his nephew David McBride; and his niece Maggie McBride.
In lieu in flowers, the family suggests memorial donations can be made to the Metuchen Library.
Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, April 20, 2023 at Selover Funeral Home. Burial in Elmwood Cemetery in North Brunswick will follow.
