Obituary of Daniel P. DiStefano

Please share a memory of Daniel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Daniel Paul DiStefano, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran and community volunteer passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2023. He was 74.

Born in New Brunswick to the late Frank and Katherine (Stonaker) DiStefano, he lived in North Brunswick for over 40 years before moving to Monroe Township over nine years ago. His early life was spent in Florida, prior to returning to Jamesburg. Before he graduated from Jamesburg High School in 1966 he had completed barber school. After graduation he followed in his father and grandfather's footsteps and worked in the family barbershop. Danny had a passion for real estate and was a real estate developer for almost 50 years.

In 1967 Danny received an invitation from Uncle Sam and joined the United States Army. He was deployed to the Vietnam War. Service to his country was important to Danny as he followed his father (Army) and older brother, Richard, (Marines) in wartime deployment. In April of 2023 he received a Proclamation for Distinguished Service from the North Brunswick Mayor and Council honoring his military service and naming the street of Thatchwood Court, "DiStefano Way".

Community involvement was important to Danny as demonstrated by his longtime service to North Brunswick Township. He firmly believed a person has an obligation to make the community they live in a better place. As a 40+ year member of the Adams Athletic Club, a 25 year member and chairman of the Township Planning Board and a 21 year member of the September 11th Committee, as well as other volunteer work, Danny truly made North Brunswick a better place to live.

One of Danny's hobbies was planting flowers around his and Karen's home. He always made a beautiful display around the pool in the backyard.

Surviving are his wife, Karen A. (Austie) DiStefano; his daughter Kelly Hallam and her husband Lance; two sons – Brent Zoba and Robert Zoba; five grandchildren, whom he loved dearly – Kyleigh, Ryan and Chase Hallam and Shannon and Addison Zoba; Karen's children, with whom he had special bonds and love – Colette Shea and her husband Shawn and their children RJ, Connor and Micayla and Andrew Baczkowski and his wife Chris and their children Aiden and Abigal; his two aunts – Rose Marie Enyeart and her husband Morris and Amalia DiStefano; his nephew David DiStefano; and his niece Dena DiStefano. Joining his Stonaker and DiStefano cousins, nephews and nieces was one of Danny's greatest pleasures.

Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. Funeral services will be 9:15 AM, Wednesday, June 7, 2023, from Selover Funeral Home followed by a 10:00 AM Mass at Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church in North Brunswick. Entombment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick. Donations in memory of Daniel P. DiStefano may be made to the North Brunswick Police Department, 710 Hermann Road, North Brunswick, NJ 08902 or to the Adams Athletic Club, 1210 Cozzens Lane, North Brunswick, NJ 08902.
