Joan (Horwat) Horvath died Friday, December 2, 2011, at Mease Countryside Hospital in Clearwater, Florida. She was 93. Born in Barnesboro, Pennsylvania, she had lived in South River and Highland Park before moving to Clearwater, FL in 1996. For the last three years she had resided at Horizon Bay Retirement Community. Joan had worked for Food Fair/Pantry Pride in Highland Park for 19 years before retiring in 1980. She had managed the front office and is remembered for her friendly and helpful attitude. She was a member of the Bayard Street Presbyterian Church in New Brunswick where she served as past president of the Women's Guild and also was a member of the session, of which she was treasurer. Her husband, Andrew Horvath, died in 1983. She is survived by three daughters - Andrea Alstrup of Sequim, Washington, Elizabeth Pinzone and her husband Joseph of Sandyston, NJ and Linda Jandernal and her husband Kevin of Clearwater, Florida; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She is also predeceased by her sisters - Elizabeth Lukasko, Helen Fisanick, Ethel Hill Parker, Rose Molle, Violet Gierlich, Lillian Russell and Emma Lucasko. Joan will be remembered as a devoted mother to her daughters and "sons" and loving grandmother and great grandmother whose energy and candor lives on with those who loved her. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Friday at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick, NJ. Burial will follow in Van Liew Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Friday 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
