Frederick E. Gillen died Friday, December 30, 2011, at his home in the Somerset section of Franklin Township. He was 80. Born in New York City he had lived on Long Island before moving to Somerset over 40 years ago. He had worked as a plumbing inspector for the State of New Jersey and had taught plumbing at Raritan Valley Community College. He had served as a paratrooper in the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team of the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Gillen had joined the Eastern Star Lodge #105 F & AM in Bound Brook in 1975 and became affiliated with the Princeton Lodge #38 F & AM in 2002. He was a member of the Scott Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons and was a member of the Crescent Shrine. He was past master of the Raritan Valley Lodge #66 and had served as Grand Chaplain in 2004. His wife Patricia Winifred McCrodden Gillen died in 1989. He is survived by his children - Kathleen and Jonathan; and grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick, from 2-3 PM and 7-9 PM with a Masonic Service to take place at 7:30 PM. Disposition will be private.
