Robert D. Bunker died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at his home in North Brunswick. He was 87. Born in New Brunswick he had lived in North Brunswick for the past 44 years. Mr. Bunker had served in the 36th Infantry Division of the United States Army during World War II. He saw action in Central Europe, Italy and France and was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He remained in the Army serving in Laos and Turkey before retiring as a Master Sergeant. He then worked as assistant chief for the Rutgers University Police Department for 21 years. He was a member of the Six Mile Run Reformed Church in Franklin Park and was also a member of the American Legion, Joyce Kilmer Post #25 in Milltown. His daughter Stephanie H. Mula died in 2002. Surviving are his wife Hildegard Schweiger Bunker; his son Robert J. Bunker and his wife Dolores A. of Peculiar, Missouri; a sister Martha Anderson of Waretown; and three grandchildren - Jennifer Marie Bunker of Independence, MO, Jason Mula of Holmdel and Keith J. Mula of Lawrence Harbor. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. Entombment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM.
