Obituary of Raymond J Woody

Raymond J. Woody, Sr. died Monday, March19, 2012 at his home in Monroe Township. He was 76. Born in Newark, he attended schools in Hillside and Scotch Plains. He attended Florida Southern College before serving in the United States Army until honorably discharged in 1956. He started working for New Jersey Bell in 1956 and retired from Bell Atlantic in New Brunswick in 1996. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #827. He had lived in North Brunswick before moving to the Rossmoor Community in Monroe Township 14 years ago. Mr. Woody joined the Masons in the Newark Lodge in 1958 and became active in the Milltown Lodge #294 F.and A.M. where he had served on the Board of Trustees and as Past Master. He was a 33rd Degree Mason and was a member of the Valley of Central Jersey in Bordentown. He was also a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of the Northern Jurisdiction in Bordentown. Surviving are his wife of 53 years Gayle R. Hooton Woody; two sons - Raymond J. Woody, Jr. and his wife Laura of Jefferson Township and Scott Woody and his wife Christine of Doylestown, Pennsylvania; a daughter Linda Woody Ahearn of Bridgewater; and four grandchildren - Jessica DePaola, Michael Woody, Julia Ahearn and Elijah Woody. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. Burial will follow in Van Liew Cemetery in North Brunswick. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Thursday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Masonic Charity Foundation, 902 Jacksonville Road, Burlington, NJ 08016.
