Obituary of Martha M. Godfrey

Martha McLeod Godfrey died Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Saint Peter's University Hospital, New Brunswick. She was 80. She was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, and spent her childhood in Venezuela before relocating to New Brunswick. Martha graduated from New Brunswick High School and in 1976 moved to North Brunswick. Martha enjoyed commuting to New York City where she was a medical assistant for 38 years to Dr. Alan Scheer. She was a receptionist at Rutgers University (UBHC), Piscataway for 13 years when she retired in 2017. Martha was an active member of the St. John the Evangelist Church community where she served on the vestry as Junior Warden and the Property Committee. Martha was predeceased by her parents John Robert and Patricia Mabel (Riva) Godfrey; and her brother Christopher Robert Godfrey. She is survived by her nieces - Beth Godfrey Becker and her children Caitlyn and Patrick Becker of Falmouth, Maine, Lew Godfrey and her children Inara and Zion Luster of Miami, Florida; her nephew Alister Godfrey of Hidden Valley Lake, California; and many beloved cousins. She is also survived by her extended NJ family - Margaret Koleser and Loretta Koleser, Judith (Koleser) and Darryl Vaz and their children Cassandra and Michael Vaz of Piscataway, New Jersey, and Peggy Koleser of Savannah, Georgia. Visitation will be Friday, February 3, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. Funeral Service is at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, 189 George Street, New Brunswick.
